Annapolis, MD
Annapolis is the capital of Maryland and served as temporary capitol of the United States from 1783-1784. Annapolis is located on the Chesapeake Bay south of Baltimore and east of Washington DC.
Originally named Providence it was settled in 1649 by Puritan exiles from Virginia. Later on the settlers moved to the south shore. The settlement went through several names and was finally named "Anne Arundel's Towne". Finally becoming Annapolis, which in Latin means "Anne's town."
The U.S Naval Academy is located in Annapolis. The academy was founded in 1845 and is still open today. Annapolis is also the home to St. John's College.
